Texting and Driving Collision

“Lol…”

That’s the text… the text that could take someone’s life. Is it really worth it?

Check out these statistics from DMV.org”

In the United States:

  • 26% of all car collisions in 2014 involved cell phone use.
  • At least 9 people are killed every day because of a distracted driver.
  • More than 1,000 people are injured every day due to a distracted driver.
  • In 2015 42% of teens say they have texted while driving—and texting and driving is the leading cause of death in teens.

An astronomical amount of automobile collisions could be prevented if we put an end to texting and driving. Unfortunately, we have become so dependent on our phones that we sometimes use them without even noticing. The increased usage of social media has caused an incredibly addictive behavior to our cell phones both on and off the road.

With stop-and-go traffic being so common in Staten Island, a quick glance at your phone could cause a collision. Even looking at your phone at a red light could be dangerous because drivers tend to jolt once they’ve realized the light has turned green; this jolting and paranoid feeling causes an instant reaction to press on the gas which often leads to rear-end collisions. One of the best ways to prevent a texting and driving collision is to put your phone in your glove compartment or middle console as soon as you get in the car; out of sight, out of mind.

Distracted driving is deadly driving. Put your phone down and #JustDrive!
