Accident: An unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury – Dictionary.com. In the case of car “accidents” the word accident implies it was no one “at fault”, but how many times is this genuinely the case? Whenever there is an accident it is usually the result to one of the driver’s being negligent or complacent while driving.
As human beings, we get into habits and tend to form a sense of complacency with certain everyday tasks that could potentially be dangerous. Crossing a street, cutting food with a sharp knife, even walking up or down a flight of stairs. The same goes for operating a vehicle. Because of this complacency we occasionally don’t use that blinker or don’t check that blind spot one last time and it’s a problem. When an accident does occur, is it truly an accident? Yes, certainly you did not intentionally ram your vehicle into the side of someone else and you didn’t mean to ride so close to the person in front of you and when they stopped you couldn’t avoid a minor fender bender. But we need to realize what’s at hand here. Not only is your life is at stake, but every other driver on the road trusts that nearby drivers are being careful and cautious. It’s our responsibility to avoid “accidents” at all costs. Be courteous, be considerate, be patient, but whatever you do, don’t be complacent!
