If you have driven a car, or even been in a car, it is extremely likely that you’ve heard of collision insurance. But do you know exactly what it is and how it works? Our staff at Barry’s Auto Body is filled with experts in collision insurance because it has become such an important part of our business.
Collision insurance helps vehicle owners cover the costs associated with repairing or replacing a vehicle after it has been in an accident. However, insurance does not cover EVERY incident that occurs on the road. Collision insurance will help you pay for any damage that is a result of a collision with another vehicle or another object such as a tree or guardrail. However, collision insurance will help pay for damage resulting from natural disasters (“Acts of God”), fire, storms, theft or vandalism.
Collision insurance also has coverage deductibles and limits. A deductible is a set amount of money you must pay before the insurance company can cover the remainder of the costs associated with your vehicle’s damage. A coverage limit is the maximum amount of money the insurance company will pay to repair your car. In many scenarios, the coverage limit is equal to the value of the vehicle being fixed. If your car is deemed “totaled,” the insurance company will provide you with a check amounting to the depreciated value of the vehicle minus the deductible associated with the claim.
