Winter is Here

Winter is here and Barry’s Auto Body, the eco-friendly, Staten Island collision repair shop wants to remind readers to check all your vehicle’s fluids, belts, hoses and tires to reduce the chance of roadway breakdown in inclimate weather.

Late model cars are equipped with warning lights and systems to tell us when there is a problem with the vehicle, but as we all know, computers don’t always work correctly – especially in cold weather. Rather than risk a breakdown in the snow, rain or freezing cold, why not do a quick vehicle inspection to make sure that everything is in good working order.

Freezing weather can make worn belts brittle and stretched hoses pop from cold to hot expansion. You might also notice that your tires flatten out a bit when temperatures dip. (On late model cars you will see your dashboard tire light come on telling you that you need air.)

Checking and replacing worn hoses, belts and tires can save you time and expense. It can also help you stay safe by reducing your chances of experiencing a breakdown on dark, winter roads.

Barry’s Auto Body, Staten Island collision repair shop also wants to remind readers that it is also important to check your fluids – especially your windshield wiper fluid.

If you live in an area that gets snow it’s inevitable that your windshield will get covered with salt, soot and residue from the road causing you to have to use your windshield washers several times during a single trip. To avoid imparied vision due to dirty windshields, be sure to super clean your windshield once a month as demonstrated in our YouTube video and keep your windshield wiper reservoir filled with fluid. We also recommend keeping at least one spare bottle of windshield washer fluid in your trunk for quick refills when you run out.

In order to keep your windshield clean we also recommend changing your wiper blades at the start of winter.  If you don’t think your blades need changing then keep a spare set in your trunk along with the windshield washer fluid just in case.

A thorough check of your vehicle’s vehicle’s fluids, belts, hoses, tires and wiper blades can help to ensure enjoyable and safe winter driving.

If you are not the DIY type, just give our Staten Island collision repair shop a call at (718) 948-8585 and we will give your vehicle the winter once over for you.
